If any of the vROps product team see this, to whom do we address questions, bugs, and support issues using the vRPT tool?

Preparing for vROPs End Point Operations Install

What do I need to take into account when preparing for a vROps End Point Operations Install?  Your practical recommendations appreciated.

Things like:

-Performance Impact on the VM itself

-Can this be used on purely physical servers

-Other recommendations, caveats, gotchas

Can data be retained while an Analytics VM stops?

Hi Community,

Can statistics data you can see in the vCops Manager be kept in vCenter Server or somewhere while the Analytics VM stops?

We will expand duration of data retention an Analytics VM has defined in $ALIVE_BASE/user/conf/analytics/advanced.properties , from 180d by default to 360d. But due to shortage of size of the datastore where the Analytics VM is currently placed in, we will need to move the VM to another cluster that has enough size of it to expand the virtual hard drive. To do that, first we have to stop the VM, which is why I am asking here.

If possible, we would like to keep the all data and make it visualizable through the vCops Manager even after the operation.

Any advice will be welcome!

Right metric for vROps storage performance

$

I'm looking for the right vROps metric to use for storage performance on a virtual machine.  What I need is the metric that gets me as close to the OS as possible when measuring command latency.  there are virtual machine metrics for "storage" "disk" "virtual disk" and "datastore".  Ideally, I'd like a metric that utilizes VMware tools to measure command latency from the time the OS sends the command to the SCSI controller until the time the OS receives it back.  Is there such a metric that measures storage latency from that high up in the OS?  If not what is the metric that gets up the farthest and closest to the OS?  disk, storage, virtual disk, datastore, or one particular metric within these categories?

Thanks!

[vROM 6.4] How to create daily VM performance reports? Is it possible or not?

HI,

I'm using vROM 6.4 Enterprise and I just want to see all of my VMs daily performance data.

I create custom trend type Views and create reports using the custom trend views.

I manage 8 ESXi and 150 VMs but when I  run the custom report template, there are only 14 VM listed.

How to create daily VMs performance reports as below table?

there are only 1 VM, but I want to see 150 VMs data. Please help.

Object type suddenly changed from "Windows" to "AIX"

vROps is really frustrating….

This morning, I encountered another issue.  The Object Type for the symptoms I’ve already defined suddenly changed.  See screenshot below:

The Object Type for the highlighted items below was “Windows”, as it has been before. I was about to change the value of the thresholds when I noticed it is now “AIX”.  You know for sure that AIX objects does not have C:\ local|NTFS metrics.

I’ve created these symptoms a long time ago as vROps / Epops doesn’t have a built-in metric to monitor each Windows drive.  I created symptoms for every drive letters up to N:.  Now it’s going to take me hours to re-create them.

Mix of vCloud Suite & Enterprise Plus ESXi hosts for vrealize operations manager

Hi,

In a number of vCenters we have hosts licensed as vCloud Suite which includes the use of vrealize against them but inside the same vCenter there are also hosts which are only using the Enterprise Plus license.

Is it still ok to use vRealize Operations manager in this vCenter? Or do all ESXi hosts need to be licensed to cover off the use of vRealize Ops Manager

Thanks.

Maintenance Schedules

Hi,

i have multiple different servers with applications running on that have a backup windows starts at night. But not all at the same time.

For example. SQL Server Service down. I get that message from the in guest epops agent.

Therefor i have to create a maintenace window for those machines.

But as far as i understand, it is only possible to create a schedule for a specific time and policy.

Also it is not possible to create a schedule with more than one time. Maybe one Maintenance from 9 to 10 and the other from 22 to 23.

In previous versions, it was possible to create a maintenance schedule per VM. But that has changed.

I don´t wan´t to create hundres of policiy only for the reason to create maintenance schedules for my vm´s.

Is there any other way to implement that?

Thanks

Frank

Unable to communicate with server -- provider not yet setup. Agent might still be initializing.

Any one come across this error with EPO agents on vROps 6.3?

"Unable to communicate with server -- provider not yet setup. Agent might still be initializing. "

This is the first time I have installed EPO agent which I tried after an upgrade from 6.2 to 6.3.

This is the same on both Linux and Windows VMs.

Under EP Ops Adapter in Inventory Explorer all the collection states are showing as collecting and receiving.

How do you produce a report in vCops that contains historic data

$

I installed vCops 6.4 in November.

I was out of the office and our team ran some performance tests in December.

I would like to generate some reports of the Disk IOPs, CPU / Memory Usage, etc from a time frame in December.

However, i don't see the option in 6.4

What is the process to build a report by using historic data?

thanks

Can I have multiple vROps instances connect to the same vCenter server and pull data from it?  If so, what is the performance impact of doing this on the vCenter server?

vCops Reports - what does the y-axis represent ?

$

I have produced various types of reports and graphs, and do not see a definition of what the values on the y-axis represent.

For instance

A Virtual Machine CPU Diagnose report show numbers on my graph -2.5 going up to 20.

Does this represent %?

A Virtual Machine Disk Write IOPs Forecast report show numbers on my graph -100 going up to 900

Are these disk IOPs from the VM Disk ?

VM IOPs Trend View report show numbers on my graph 0 going up to 3 (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5...)

Are these Per Second?

Virtual Machine Disk I/O Latency Diagnose show numbers on my graph -0.025 to 0.13 (-0.025. 0, 0.025, 0.005,,,)

Are these Per Second?

Also, does anyone know how to reduce the size of the graphs so the labels at the bottom fit?

thanks

vRO 6.4 Advanced Capcity Report - Storage utilization

Hi I'm new to vRO and have a very specific issue.

I have created a custom View+Report for Capacity planning at the cluster level.

Report subject = Cluster Compute Resource

The issue I have is with the Storage metrics:-

Disk Space|Total disk Space

Disk Space|Total disk Space used (TB)

Disk Space|Allocation|Usable Capacity (TB)

Disk Space|Allocation|Capacity Remaining Value (TB)

The storage metrics include all storage for a cluster. I only want to include the shared datastores (not local disks), and ideally not the first two datastores (labelled HB1_... and HB2_...) although this is less important.

I have tried Googling for answers and played with creating a custom group. But whilst, I can get the correct Datastores in the custom group but I cant seem to get the metrics on that custom group.

any advice would be helpful

Migrating from Windows Vcenter to VCSA 6.5 and it's effect on vRops?

$

I originally posted this question to the vCenter forum, but haven't had any feedback on it.   Our vcenter servers are currently windows based, running 6.0 update 2a.  Our vRops 6.4 environment has a little over 6 months of collected metrics.  I'm starting to plan out our migration to vCenter 6.5, and if possible, I'd like to migrate to the appliance.

What effect will migrating to the vcenter appliance have on my vRops installation?  Will vRops recognize that the objects managed by the old vcenter have been migrated to the new vcenter appliance and continue collecting metrics for them, or will it treat them as new objects?

Count number of hosts in a custom group

I have created a custom property that has my hosts end of service live date that is imported from out CMDB. From that custom property i have created several custom groups that contain all the hosts from each year ( 2017-2020)

What i want to do is create a super metric that will count the number of hosts in the group so when i create a object list that lists all the EOSL groups i can pick the super metric and show it as an additional column.

vCenter Alarms, Tasks, and Events in vRealize Operations 6.4

We have a few vCenters and they are 5.5 running on Windows with SQL.  We are going to 6.0 U2 with appliances and we are trying to solve something.  All of our hosts syslog to Splunk and the new 6.0 appliances have syslog to Splunk.  Our issue we are trying to solve is seeing if we can get vCenter Tasks, Events, and Alarms to come through.  Without deploying all these extra Splunk VMs to get vCenter data we are trying to see if vRealize Operations already has this data?

I can't seem to find anything in vRealize for Tasks, Events, or Alarms that vCenter creates.  Does anyone know if vRealize Operations logs this information and if so where?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

VROPS 6.4 report CSV file truncated to 51 columns

Hi

I have created a view with 80 columns but when I run the report I only see 51 columns in the csv file and the pdf file fails to even create. Does anyone know who to get around this, it was working prior to the upgrade from VRops 6.0.

Disable vROPS alerts on certain objects

$

Good morning,

I am in the process of upgrading several ESXi hosts in my environment. They are all managed by the same vCenter but they are spread across multiple virtual data-centers and clusters.

Problem statement:

Every time I reboot one of these hosts, i get a vROPS alert which triggers an email to our operations team. They have asked me to suppress the alerts on these objects while i am in the process of upgrading the host. Is there a simple way to suppress alerts on multiple host at once?

FYI. I am running vROPS 6.4

Thanks in advance.
